Regions across the southern part of Korea are joining a growing campaign to encourage calling migrant workers by their names instead of using disrespectful terms like “ya” (hey).

The Korea Herald reports that the campaign is part of broader efforts to promote a culture of respect toward people with diverse backgrounds.

The move was launched by the Jeollanamdo Contingent Workers Center, a human rights group based in South Jeolla Province. The center has worked with local corporations and groups to run the campaign. It mostly involves encouraging Korean employers and workers to address their colleagues from other countries by name. A common practice is putting workers’ names on their hard hats.
