Gbanjo! – Adewale Sobowale

Moses Adejumo, aka Baba Sala was the quintessential comic of my childhood. In one of his plays, a new wife of his, Kariile, does something Baba Sala finds unpardonable. He then offers her for sale to any willing buyer.
‘Gbanjo,
Gba-gba-ngba,
Gbanjo,
Bi mo ri ma ra
Omoge di toro!
Kariile di toro!!!

In the second republic, when it was apparent that late Chief MKO Abiola was gunning for the presidency, he created a lot of jitters. It took Umaru Dilkko to tell him that the presidency was not for sale.

However, it’s now clear that the presidency is for sale to the highest bidder. But what is apparent, and maybe unknown to the major actors, is that the bidding might not be necessarily in monetary terms.

It could be in terms of hope, trust, or whatever.

We need to pity some people. Those are the people who have lost before the actual elections.

Such people do not have any business contesting anyway. Okay, it will boost their CVs. I’m not contesting their constitutional right anyway.

Gbanjo, Presidency for sale!!!
