This week, I’ve read several posts from people I hold in high esteem expressing their frustration with the Nigerian government. In fact, most of them called for a coup d’etat.
While a coup could have served two purposes, one, pay Mr Mohammed Buhari back in his own coins for torpedoing a democratically elected government on December 31,1983.
The second point is to get rid of this jagbajantis government. I refer to it so because any government which can not guarantee the safety of the hoi poloi is not worth being called one. This government has shown us that it would be sitting pretty while the very last bastion of Nigeria’s defence is invaded.
The most painful thing is that in next year’s elections, people might still vote in this government. Even if they don’t, it might get in technically.
Technically because a peep at the array of presidential contestants gives me a shuddering fear. My fear is that the incumbent stands a good chance.
But you see, even if it so happens that we elect the devil, it is our decision. Our decision happens to be sacrosanct and it must be respected.
Talking of the military, what track record do they have anyway? A military that could produce an Abacha or a Babangida to me, is not credible.
I would advise that we weather out the storm. We are a growing democracy. In the process of growing, fumbling and wobbling are part of the growing process.
Let’s believe with the political scientists that, the best military government is worse than the worst civilian government!!!
