Na Poi! – Adewale Sobowale

Fela is truly an icon!

I’m using the present tense in reference to the Black President advisedly. This is because although he is physically dead, his songs are forever. Most especially, in a Nigeria that has stubbornly refused to change for the better.

Did you know that some women do sell themselves into harlotry because of marking of scripts? Whenever any examination body is conducting a marking exercise, some ladies who were not invited to mark scripts do come to try their luck.

Those that were not invited are always welcome. This is because some of those that were invited may not come. Those that were not invited in the first instance are called, ‘Gate crashers’.

There is nothing basically wrong with gatecrashing. It provides teachers of the various subjects insights into how the various papers are marked, what points examiners are looking for, etc. I always love the logical arguments that go on there.

However, due to the fact only a few graduates get some form of employment, people are always desperate to gatecrash into marking venues. More often than not, it becomes a matter of whom you know.

This eventually gives some ladies the chance to use what they have to pursue what they want. They are not bothered that the job is just for a fortnight. Neither are they bothered with the fact that the remuneration is always miserly.

And of course, wherever you find a good dancer, if you look closely, a very good drummer must be at hand.

The men are at a disadvantage here.

Some of the ladies do bribe their ways with money while some go for the real thing. However, it may all be fruitless if some of them do not get scripts after all. But then, even if those who bribe with money eventually get their monies back, is it possible for the others?

O di poi!
