I hardly use the word, ‘hate’, for anything. At worst, I could refer to a situation as ‘sad’.
However, I vehemently hate unbridled authoritarianism in all its ramifications. That’s one of the reasons why I believe the military can never be a solution to the problems of any country.
A very close friend encouraged me to join a WhatsApp group. The name of the group is ‘Authors on —–books’. The group is for those who have had their works published on —– Books, an online publishing outfit.
That was earlier this year!
I would always let the contributions pile up before I read them. You know authors contribute healthily to debates in a robust manner.
On my own part, I hardly contributed to the debates. In fact, I think today would be my third contribution to a debate.
Here are some of the exchanges,
Someone said,
‘Suicide is a coward, in which the chicken hearted transfer his or her displeasure to the loved ones.’
I don’t think so. I then responded,
‘It takes courage for someone to decide that the best thing is killing themselves.’
It was a debate, a lively one too. At various times, I added the following statements,
‘It depends on the angle from which you look at it.
By the way, would you call mercy killing/euthanasia an act of cowardice?’
‘The message doesn’t indicate a particular society.’
A little while later, when I checked my phone, I was told, ‘+2348 removed you’.
I couldn’t believe myself. So, I decided to call the number, both on phone and on Whatsapp. It was not picked. I then sent a message to the number asking why I was removed.
The message was not responded to.
Now, I published two books with the online publisher, all I can say is that it has not been a success.
Now, this!
When we complain, especially the literates of which writers are a germane part, we always blame the government.
Is it the government that’s blocking our freedom of speech, in this case?
