The society we are in has certain expectations from its members. It’s like a straightjacket.
But then, unusual men (and women) do unique things. In most cases, it may not be easy, just because they had disobeyed the society’s expectations.
The society asked them to sit down and they chose not only to stand but to move about and achieve great feats.
But one thing that’s peculiar to them is that they are always moving. And moving forward too. Human society is generally conservative and thus it detests a change from its norms.
But then, there are quite a few people who want social changes. To my mind, I believe Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg would have looked like nuts to even their respective parents. Or what would you think of a child who drops out of university? Or closer home, Fela Kuti who was sent abroad to read medicine but switched over to music.
The three of them became trail blazers because they didn’t allow themselves to be stiffened by societal expectations. They discovered their real selves and by so doing their self worth.
To that young person who has decided to chart a novel path for themselves, please go ahead. You may be discouraged, even by people close to you at first, but once you believe in your own self, you’ll get there.
Don’t have a false belief that all that glitters is gold, but then, if you keep on doing your best, the end will surely justify the means!
