Excuse Me! – Adewale Sobowale

I couldn’t help myself this morning. Those who know me would have realized I’m a hen as far as dancing is concerned.

A kii r’ijo l’ese adie!

However, I surprised myself this morning.

I danced!

Yeah, I did!!

What happened?

I was playing Fela Kuti’s ‘Je nwi t’emi’, on YouTube. I couldn’t, but dance.

In fact, the song identifies all Fela stood for. I think the song should be incorporated into all freedom of expression battles. Indeed, all human rights struggles, as well.

Well, those who noticed would have known an uncalled for distraction happened between one so-called lecturer and I a couple of days ago. It was over a post I did titled, ‘Honor Among Thieves?’

I don’t want to bore people with the details, but I just want to assure them that I don’t know how to pretend. I say things the way they are.

Of course, since nobody is an avatar of knowledge and only God is all knowing, I could make mistakes. But then, I’m always quick to make amends.

What’s the reason for this?

I’m declaring that I won’t, by any means, stop airing my opinions on issues the way I see them.

That brings me to a place where I once worked. Since that place is supposed to be a religious space, people do pretend. I’m using the present tense because I don’t have any reason to believe there has been a change.

They pretend to the extent that even when they go for social functions, those who normally take alcoholic beverages will pretend they don’t.

Ile eni la tin j’ekute oni’dodo!

When I was there, the Oga and I happened to have been seated close to each other at a social function. Of course, trust me, I asked for my ice cold Trophy lager beer.

Why should I, at my age, have any cause to pretend? That, of course, was one of the reasons I was kicked out of the place.

I’m just using that instance to inform people that,

Oju ti ri!

But then, I insist that people have the right to disagree with me in a courteous manner. But those who are not inclined to are free to unfriend me if they can’t let go!

The next post I’ll do is what I feel about OBJ’s letter. I’m announcing it for obvious reasons!
