The killings of the unfortunate church goers in Anambra state wasn’t a surprise to me. It wasn’t a surprise given the state of insecurity that, rather than be exceptional, is now the norm in this country.
To the doubting Thomases, may I remind them of the boko haram problem which has become, more or less, a part of us? Or should I remind them of the innocent pupils of Model Secondary School, Igbo Nla, Epe, Lagos State? Or the king of kidnappers who, thank God, is now in police confinemen? Or should we talk about the Badoo ritualists in Ikorodu, Lagos State?
Those are just a few of the cases of insecurity that we are facing. Unfortunately, it’s not as if the law enforcement agencies are masters of the game. There’s no doubt about the fact that they are spending sleepless nights on the problem.
But it is apparent that, for certain reasons, their best has not been good enough.
Even in situations of war, churches and mosques are always seen as places of relative safety. But those gangsters decided to paint this Sunday in black for those innocent souls that went for the morning service in that church today.
I think our religious leaders have a lot of investigative work to do concerning their members’ donations.
There are some people who would be acting Robbin Hood. They would get their money from shady deals and be seeking spiritual succour.
Unfortunately, the religious leaders would feel those people are only giving back to the society. I won’t agree that anybody is doing any good for God because I’ve never seen Him making use of our so-called goodness.
How would the Rev Father have felt today? Did he not scamper to safety? Could they have finished the service?
Were the Catholic Church and the Christian Church in general not embarrassed at the turn of events? Not to talk of Anambra state government, the Nigerian government and people at large.
I still believe all the evil acts by men who have sold their souls to the devil could be avoided if those who are donating whatever are properly investigated.
May the souls of the departed find peace with their creator.
