For a person who was once catapulted from the White House, if I were Mr Trump, I would have focused my new term of office on trying to be the best president ever.
An Igbo proverb says, “When a man says yes his chi says yes also” which means “God helps those who help themselves”. I will term that to mean God is in the habit of helping those who help themselves through the people.
The Yorubas in their wisdom say, “If a person’s yam sprouts, they cover it.”
However, our man in his most boisterous form supported by the MAGA crowd, wouldn’t have any of that.
He seems to be saying we have only one life and must use it for impact, it doesn’t matter whether the consequences are negative or not.
Being a migrant who went to Canada during Trump’s first term, I’m not well-positioned to comment on Mr Trump’s immigration policy except to plead that migrants prefer a better deal than being shackled before and during deportation.
Having said that, why are we blaming Putin for his primitive acquisitive tendencies when the presumed leader of the free world is filled with thoughts of annexing some free nations?
I wouldn’t have ever thought of tariffs against imports from our close trade partners because I ought to have known apart from leading to a trade war, it would affect the poorest of the poor in all the countries, mine included.
I would have made decisions towards establishing a two-state policy in the Middle East thereby putting a permanent stop to the killings between Israel and Palestinians.
I wouldn’t have thrown away the baby with the bath water in Ukraine. I wouldn’t have allowed the shame of an exchange in the Oval Office to happen.
But then, … I’m no Trump!
