SARE P’EGBE! – Adewale Sobowale

There are many chieftaincy titles in Yorubaland.

There is the Oba at the head. He’s ably supported by the otun, osi, balogun and the iya l’oja amongst others.

There was a story of a rich person who was desperate to bag a chieftaincy title. When the oba told him that titles had finished, oyetan. He declared it was enough as a title for him.

So, the man was invested with the title of oyetan!

However, one important title that people always look down on is, sare p’egbe. An important title for an unimportant person.

The messenger!

But then a messenger is very important. Anyway, I very much believe in the dignity of labour. Any person who’s had some business or the other to do in the ministries will attest to the importance of messengers.

That the Nigerian vice president, professor Yemi Osinbajo, is distributing money in Bayelsa state is no longer news.

The only reason that would make a brilliant professor and pastor to be running errands for people of low morals may be because he, in spite of his brilliance, is of a lower moral.

We can remember Osinbajo was all over the country distributing 10,000 naira only being the so-called tradermoni just before elections in 2015.

The only other duty he performs well is being sent to mourn people who died unnecessarily. Unnecessarily because if the government had been true to its duties, their deaths would have been prevented.

About the tradermoni, why must government find it necessary to remember the suffering masses just before elections. By the way, what can 10k do in making people live a life of integrity?

When will a proper social welfare system be introduced for the masses in Nigeria?

Osinbajo is only wasting his talent and integrity.

Anyway, we’ll be waiting for his installation as the, sare p’egbe, of this government!
