I love great writers!
Although they generally prefer not to wear the tag, ‘prophet’, they generally see the end right from the beginning.
If Nigeria had listened to some of her writers, I believe our lot as a nation might have been better. I could still remember that Ray Ekpu predicted the burning of the NET building following the burning of the External Affairs building.
Ekpu was arrested for what could be termed millions of crimes. I would have thought a serious government would have taken measures to protect public buildings in the first instance.
Earlier, before the civil war, many authors just felt a war was coming.
Did we listen?
The book, ‘Things Fall Apart’, by Professor Chinua Achebe had its title taken from a poem written by the Irish poet, W.B. Yeats in 1919. The poem is titled ‘The Second Coming’.
With the beating of the former speaker of the Senate in Germany and the alleged ‘head slapping’ of the controversial Ijebu Igbo ex-gubernatorial candidate, I believe things are falling apart for Nigerian politicians.
I even saw a video purportedly of a Zambian minister being heckled in London. An Ukrainian politician was allegedly thrown into a rubbish bin by an angry mob.
What other evidence do we need of the ‘second coming’?
