“They first came for the socialists, and I did not speak out because I was not a socialist…” Martin Niemoller
The above quotation speaks so well of the Nigerian authorities’ perennial interest in banning social media.
However, if we really look at it, they are trying to protect Nigerians from wasting their money buying data to criticize the government. Since they already know the government is ruling unquestionably, what point is there in criticizing it or any of its agencies?
The government knows there’s no law of libel in Nigeria that can take care of any defamation of its agents’ characters.
To crown it all, who will dare report the inept leadership of this government with the ban on social media?
In fact, I want to advise the government to ban radios, TVs, and even telephones plus any other source of mass communication.
By the way, that’s what Nigeria needs right now as it will put food on the hungry’s tables, it will provide jobs for the jobless, it will provide security and it will also provide good roads.
The king that rules well, will never have his name removed from the annals of history. So will the one that does otherwise!
