I love Yoruba!
I love the language because it is extra rich. When one studies Yoruba well, they will definitely not be lacking in the sarcasm that is embedded in Yoruba language. I remember there used to be a television programme in the seventies and early eighties named, ‘Ta n mo’.
Ta n mo was a programme of riddles. See what is happening now, are they not riddles? I mean these millions of naira being found here and there.
People are not coming out to own up that they are the owners. It is strange. It is quite unlike Nigerians. In the Nigeria I used to know, at least, a mentally challenged man would have come up to claim ownership of at least one of the booties! I was even thinking there would have been people that would have passable reasons for keeping such amounts in places other than banks.
Ojo ni wa, all of us are chicken hearted.
And we will be complaining that ‘country hard’. We have chosen to become what the Yoruba call, A rowo magbe, a person that will see money and refuse to pick it.
Nigeria is becoming good o. So, one can leave his money outside and go in and sleep without batting an eyelid.
God is great! We must thank Him for little mercies.
Maybe Nigeria is becoming better. Maybe we are getting to a stage where we can draw a line between being shameful and being shameless.
Maybe, maybe….
Until we know the owners, government should use the monies to provide basic amenities for the people. Until then, I still maintain that we didn’t have any business with recession, in the first instance.
