Nigeria as a savior! – Adewale Sobowale

The late Kola Olawuyi had a bitter quarrel with a pastor based in Ejigbo in Lagos State. The pastor is also deceased. However, while both were still alive, Kola Oluwuyi always referred to the pastor as “ajofeyinbo.”

That means a person whose dance is for the pleasure of the White Man.

I hear the Federal Government of Nigeria plans to launch mortgage housing for Nigerians abroad.

It’s a good program that will castrate the ubiquitous omo onile and greedy family members who have been feeding fat on funds from the diaspora but have little or, in some cases, nothing to show.

However, if I were someone in the diaspora, I’d ask some basic questions. To what extent has Nigeria provided accommodation for Nigerians living in Nigeria?

According to the Punch Newspaper of 16th October, 2023, 24 million Nigerians are homeless.

We should ask whether the instability in the country, which has become an albatross, has been solved.

We should also ask if all the amenities that people abroad take for granted will also be provided.

By the way, how are we sure the money meant for housing projects won’t be “liberated” by one government arm or another?

Could it be said that the government prefers providing shelter for people abroad at the expense of those in the country? Or is it the hard currency the government needs?

Until these questions are answered, I wouldn’t be wrong to believe the Nigerian Government is an ajofeyinbo!!!!
