We were raised to believe that all the household chores are for the ladies while all the things that require strength are for the men.

In fact, children learnt the roles around age three. Fathers went to work, and mummies stayed at home to do the mothering jobs.

But, these days, things have changed a lot.

Many men are being laid off from work, and in many cases, the men laid off have their wives still working.

Apart from that, we are in the computer age; therefore, many things that used to take a lot of manhours to do are done with only a press of a button.

And, in any case, are men necessarily the stronger sex?

Anyway, I think men’s attitudes to domestic matters could undergo some changes. The days of men being the boss around the house just because they hold the household purse are gradually ending.

Fancy a woman rushing in from a hard day’s job, having to look after the children and still having to prepare dinner. Yet, all the father does is to sit down in the living room and watch the telly.

I think this might even be a cause of conflicts in the home. But for sharp men, there should be no conflicts.

Why can’t men be the ones who would go and buy things in the marketplace? Why can’t they look after their children until mama comes from work? Why can’t they cook and set the food on the family’s dining table?
