People about to serve in the governance of a nation in any capacity need to compulsorily attend a school of etiquette, where they will be taught proper table manners.
They will be taught to use utensils and which glass to use for which wine. But that’s not even as important as not talking while eating.
I hear some Nigerian senators are being penalized for saying trash. Of course, it’s trash. If you can now complain of budget padding or kleptocracy after benefitting from the system and you’ve yet to surrender your loot, you’re just not in a position to talk.
The people I like best are the respective media officers. Even though they were appointed due to their pro-people stance, once they are appointed, they don’t have any qualms about betraying the same people in their deeds.
Why?
They have good table manners. Whenever and wherever they eat, they don’t talk except to say things their principal wants to hear and berate those making life uneasy for their principal.
Successive media officers or assistants in Nigeria are graduates of the school of etiquette.
They don’t talk while eating.
Bon appetit!
