I read the report of an investigation to some crimes being perpetrated by parents with the collusion of teachers in some primary schools in Lagos. The report was posted by the erudite Adebola Esuruoso Fashanu.
I mentioned her name so that people who care could go and read the report. I very much hope she wouldn’t mind my doing that without her permission.
Oro awon lawyer le!

I took my time to read the rather long report. In the first instance, I just must thank those journalists who carried out that sting operation. They did a very good job.
After reading the report, in spite of the fact that I was born and bred in Lagos, I really didn’t know what to say.
Yeah up till now!
We are really training the young ones. As the Yoruba will say, eyin lo ndi akuko. We are really catching them young.
You know the kids of today are so fast in learning. In any case, most of human behaviour is learnt.
In fact, we should clap for ourselves because we have gone beyond the season of a wasted generation, as Professor Wole Soyinka described his own generation. Indeed, our own generation is a rotten one!
We have succeeded in teaching our younger ones the path to follow.
Isn’t that good enough?
Parents who are worth being called so should leave legacies for their children. Yeah, we’re leaving a legacy of dishonesty for our children.
I’m just wondering what they too will leave behind for their own children. I’m looking at Nigeria of the next century.
O toju sumi o!
