In this season when men have been effectively unmanned, at a period when man’s defensive tactics have proved relatively ineffective, we tend to wonder what’s become of man’s great exploits in science.
This year has, more or less, been taken over by a deadly virus. Not only that, the virus itself has succeeded in exposing the inner thoughts of men.
Or how else can we describe a situation in which two individuals are approaching each other from different directions, both unmasked? One of the men then makes way for the other in the most uncivilized of manners.
Yet, man has been significantly rendered impotent in finding a vaccine for the virus. It has succeeded in reducing the global population and it’s yet to stop.
Some have said, this has been a year of great economic losses across the globe. As an African, I remember a song we used to sing in the Aladura church we attended when I was a kid.
‘Oluwa o
Oluwa o
Oluwa ma gba’jo Ose l’owo mi
Ma gbe Satide ko mi o e’
That is, God should be merciful enough not to replace Sunday with Saturday!
I can boldly say the virus has taken away not only Sunday, it has even taken almost everything from people.
Eni to kan lo mo!
It’s therefore without any hesitation that I name COVID 19 my man of the year!
Giant of the year, if you like!!
