I wonder what Nigeria could be said to be positively good at.. I once said that if we are not ready to move, the world is not ready to wait for us.
Let’s look at agriculture for instance, I was first surprised that farm produce are sold in the most prominent of supermarkets here.
And I am not talking of processed ones. Cassava tubers, yams and maize are displayed for buyers’ attention.
The most surprising thing was when I had an opportunity to see some farm produce. I opened my mouth and I nearly salivated.
What caused the embarrassment?
I saw maize so big that I was forced to try and remember when last I saw such a bountiful harvest in my country.
These people no longer wait for nature to determine what will happen to their farm produce, and therefore, their food. They harness technology to perform wonders in their agricultural sector.
However, back home, what do you have? Government officials pay lip service to the agricultural sector. It’s either the inputs are late in coming, that’s where the almighty officials condescend to pity the farmers or monies meant for some farm project gets embezzled.
Is it not a shame that we generally still depend on nature for our planting. The herdsmen problem could have been considerably reduced if we were practising modern cattle rearing.
But our people love being lied to and the politicians are adept at lies.
We would normally say, ‘two ge four’.
