I was discussing with a friend a couple of months ago on internet fraud.
He revealed to me the advantages of the craze. In the first instance, he says it has reduced the crime rate, as if it is not a crime as well.
Second, the boys who indulge in it use the financial proceeds to boost the economy. They buy cars, land, etc. In fact, when they go to bars and restaurants, they close down the place.
They also participate in community development. Like the friend I was discussing with said those in his area were the major contributors to the tarring of their street. They did it because they did not want a bad road to be damaging their luxurious vehicles every time.
They are always at home too. They thus, unknowingly, provide security for the area.
Oh yes!
In the first instance, internet fraud is a breach of trust. Nigeria has not been in the good books of many Western countries because of it. It has even reached the stage where Nigerians are not able to fill some forms online, especially those ones which concern financial trust.
All the so-called advantages could be derived if those who involve themselves in internet fraud think of using the net positively.
For instance, there is internet marketing. Those who are in the trade smile to their banks with cool cash.
We also have freelance writing. People can get contacts for this on the net and if they are good they will never regret.
There are several other ways of using the internet positively. The only thing is that it requires patience. And someone must be really good at what they are doing.
When one makes their money this way, they are most unlikely to be dressing suspiciously. In fact, they radiate respect.
Our country, Nigeria, will be better respected in the comity of nations. Foreigners will not be turning their heads whenever and wherever Nigeria is mentioned.
We will be better trusted.
