Komu-Komu by Adewale Sobowale

Aren’t we all

in birthday suits?

Adam and Eve were lucky

they were covered with leaves!

Our own privacy is nakedness!

We go about

running from pillar to post,

yet hardly finding

true meaning of our beings!

Would it be right to say,

All men are equal?

An emphatic no!

Equality of man

is but an ideal.

Men,

through actions and inactions

are making it unidealistic

and unfeasible!

Is there any rule of law?

Don’t think so

while barons

or barawos

dominate,

oppress,

victimize

under-dogged victims

of shaky economies!

Empty-bellied kids

left to scavenge

foodless bins!

Youth going into drugs

after applying for

non-existent jobs!

Seniors living in sorrow,

with pensions not

caring for inflated goods!

We’re unwittingly queueing

for the ultimate Reaper!

We might not have

too long to wait!

We’re already weaponized

through dreaded nukes,

droughts,

desertification,

flooding,

trafficking,

kidnapping,

pedophilia,

trade wars, and

shylocking!

Komu Komu, a butcher

after selling his wares,

patronized bars,

drank himself silly!

Prominent feature of

childhood he was.

Looking at our world,

his drunken stupor

might have been a message

to us that,

Ita gbangba la’wa

Lai wo sokoto

Lai wo kijipa

Ita gbangba la wa!

We are right outdoors

Without pants

With no shred of clothing

We are right outdoors!
