ET TU, BRUTE! – Adewale Sobowale

This post’s inspiration is from an earlier one by the wordsmith, Odolaye Aremu. One other thing about the man is his graciousness in owning a free range asylum.

I’m proud to belong to this asylum of thinking people!

On March 15, 44 BCE, the popular emperor Julius Caesar was attacked by a group of senators. Initially, he resisted the attack until he saw his friend and.protege, Marcus Junius Brutus. He then said the words, Et tu Brutus, and gave up the ghost!

Apparently, he knew with a friend like Brutus, he shouldn’t be complaining against his enemies. All along, he had a brutish enemy in Brutus.

Ironically, they were wining and dining on the same table before the day of judgement.

The primary gubernatorial election of the ruling party, APC, in Lagos state has come and gone. It should be given to the governor that he acted true to his name, Akin. For the unschooled in Yoruba, an Akin is a victor. You can’t be a victor without fighting.

Although he too was produced by the corrupt system of godfatherism. One thing that’s surprising is that even the supposedly politically enlightened members of the party saw nothing wrong with someone thinking for them.

However, if theirs could be understood, what about the deputy governor?

A gbori ile
A j’eku
A gbori ile
A memu!

She is an embodiment of back stabbing. I admit the fact that the presidential system does not recognise the principle of collective responsibility that is an important part of the Westminster type of government.

However, I tend to think morality demands the deputy to resign her appointment. I wonder how both parties will be conducting the demanding task of governing an equally demanding state, knowing that that they belong to different camps.

I just can’t help wondering!!!
