Two Wrongs! – Adewale Sobowale

That Stealator Ike Ekeremadu was given the beating of his life in far away Germany is now history. I respect the Igbo for their being Republicans.

They are not unnecessarily wowed by a person’s age. Neither do they care about whoever is not contributing to their welfare.

Ekeremadu, by the way, is the former deputy president of the Senate. He’s also a sitting senator.

It reminds me of the saying that if one’s punishment is in Sokoto and the fellow happens to be in Lagos. Even if he’s to travel by rail, he must go and serve his punishment, ‘las las ni’!

When the American government banned some politicians from traveling to the United States for their dirty roles in the last election, some of us were complaining about the decision. Little did we know they were saving those politicians from lynch mobs.

When people are frustrated by a system and they are not able to complain against it openly, the result is violent confrontation.

That brings us to a popular saying by the famous American president, John Fitzgerald Kennedy, who said:

Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable.

But then, we must be seen to have overstretched all peaceful alternatives before we resort into violence.

If the Nigerian government had made it possible for people to unmask their dissatisfaction with government policies peacefully, there would have been no need for people to go violent.

Meanwhile, let me greet our great stealator,

E ku ifoti o!
