I used to believe the children we’re bringing up would turn out even worse than we are, just like we’ve turned out much worse than our parents.
In most cases, we grew up with ideologies that are supposed to shapen our lives. However, once we get into positions of authority, we jettison those ideologies.
The case of those that do not succeed in getting political or commercial power is even worse. Rather than allowing themselves to waste away, they choose to fall for anything in order to survive.
So, where is our ideology?
But I’m proud of our children. Most of them did not have access to being taught ideologies propounded by great philosophers.
They have been taught by their suffering. They have been taught by their becoming graduates and not being able to secure jobs. They have been taught by political appointees earning millions for doing next to nothing. They have been taught by the oppressive lifestyles of scions of the rich.
Experience, they say, is the best teacher!
For our youth, I will say, experience has taught them ideology. They don’t want unnecessary suffering to continue. Since we have failed to, they want to bequeath a great nation to their own children.
I doff my hat to the Nigerian youth!
