I generally feel concerned for the aged when it’s their birthday. You see, their children and sometimes even grandchildren will not fail to prepare themselves for the occasion.
The ice cold drinks and deliciously prepared food items will be competing with each other. A band or dj will be at hand to be churning out good music for the fantastic dancesteps of the celebrator.
The crowd will include mostly friends of the children and grandchildren with a few surviving associates of the celebrator.
To be seventy or eighty, is no joke. So many folks would have lost out to the grim reaper.
But is all the trouble really worth it?
Parties are not everyday affairs for aged people. But then, their dependants will want them to ‘entertain the guests. Such entertainment normally has two benefits: it reaps financial gain and it also makes the oldie appear ‘young.
However, the sad thing is that many of them, some weeks after the celebration, lose it out to death. That might not be unconnected to the exhaustion which the party had brought.
Instead of these loud parties, I would rather people establish foundations. Granted, foundations are not popular in the developing countries, but there’s always a first time.
So many problems are solved by foundations. Foundations could be for research, empowerment, etc
They are normally named after a person.
