When a handshake is getting beyond.. by Adewale Sobowale

The Yoruba have a saying for virtually everything!

There’s a saying that when a handshake gets to the shoulder, it has become a wrestling match.

I’m hearing some rumours to the effect that the United States is threatening Nigeria with war because of the allegations that Nigeria is allowing a Christian genocide.

If we all agree that Christians are just a subset of all Nigerians, which includes Islamists and Atheists, it is an incontestable fact that no life is safe in Nigeria.  Those of the so-called ruling class are not too safe either.

However, the fact remains that Nigeria is a sovereign state. If any country is uncomfortable with the events taking place in Nigeria, it could stop the aid it is giving the country, withdraw its diplomatic staff, and even report the country to the United Nations.

But to even think of waging a war against another sovereign country, I think it’s a step in the wrong direction.

Meanwhile, I’m not impressed with the authorities in Nigeria for their failure to provide adequate security for the people. Not only that, but they have also failed to provide basic amenities for the people.

But most Nigerians have themselves to blame for (s)electing an incompetent regime in power.

The Yoruba say that it is outdoors that a wayward child would be trained.
