Nigerians are reputed to be of good behaviour once they leave the shores of the country. Check out the behaviour of our Armed Forces and police personnel when they are invited to go abroad for some duty.

They always put up their best in terms of behaviour. Many a time, leadership positions are bestowed on them because of their exemplary behaviour.

Nigerians in other fields too strive to make the country proud of them. And, of course, their countries of abode.

However, there are some that behave in ways and manners that are reprehensible. They, more or less, are reflections of the bad events at home.

In this case, I refer to our high commissions and embassies. They are supposed to reflect the positive sides of our society abroad.

We know the Nigerian society is still struggling to get out of corruption. However, must we show our soft underbelly outside?

A couple of months ago, a video of the happenings at a high commission of Nigeria in Canada went viral. The gist is that it was difficult for Nigerians to get their passports renewed.

They complained of having to leave their jobs to go to the high commission. Despite their spending days at the high commission, their passports wouldn’t be ready.

This time around, it’s the turn of 9, Northumberland Avenue, Westminster where Nigeria’s high commission in London is situated. Foreigners must be wondering why we can not do simple administrative chores.

What’s the big deal in renewing a passport?

I just thought our embassies and high commissions should be windows through which foreigners could determine how we rule ourselves.
