I was taught a lesson recently.
A damn good lesson!
I would not normally go out of my way to buy aso ebi, party uniform. I made that rule for myself ages ago. I love good clothes. However, I don’t believe it’s anybody’s business to dictate anything I’ll be wearing to wherever at any point in time.
However, I learnt that to every rule, there is always an exception recently. A close friend is having a party later this month.
Friend?
He is actually a brother, even if from another mother.
Like I was saying, the family has chosen a particular aso ebi for the august occasion later in August.
Even though, I didn’t have the money, as at the time I was informed, I just felt I had to break my rule and comport myself. Whatever my pal is celebrating, I should be a full part of it.
Another friend and I discussed the issue last week. While I made my feelings known to him, he was glad that I had decided to put that exception to my rule.
The celebrator deserves that honour. Eyan nla ni l’owo mi, he’s a very important person to me.
The celebrator never knew anything. He’s not in the country, anyway.
He informed me two days ago that the aso ebi was ready. I was supposed to go and get my own from his brother in Lagos.
I stay in Abeokuta. I didn’t even have his brother’s number. I managed to get the number through another brother.
As luck will have it, a friend went to Lagos. He went to take his own aso ebi. He felt it was a duty to bring my own.
I am consoling myself that rules are made by man for man. Man could always, in his own wisdom and at his own convenience, change those rules.
