Cardboard Heroes! – Adewale Sobowale

Orisa boo le gbe mi, se mi boo se ba mi!

I’m always very proud I’m a Yoruba. I’m sure everyone realizes I don’t have any apologies for that pride.

One of the reasons is the rich literature of my people!

For instance, the above means, if a group that’s venerated proves to be problematic, let it return the adherents to the status quo.

When I look at the state of things in my home country, I’m always one of the saddest people on mother earth.

The reasons are so simple.

When one looks at the availability of resources, and one looks at the suffering of the people, one cannot but marvel.

Lile I always say, it’s we the people that are not really ready for good leadership. We aren’t because we’re satisfied with being subservient to people we’re definitely better than.

We love hero worshipping those who in normal circumstances are not better than cardboard heroes. That is esin inu’we!

I still maintain there’s no big deal in leading a nation. Especially one that’s got so much resources.

Politics is simply the act of determining who gets what at the appropriate time.

However, we the people are just content with making graven images out of cardboard heroes who eventually style themselves leaders.

No doubt, we’re the very cause of our problems. Once they know we’re yet to see the light, they go on cheating us.

Unfortunately for us, most of us are satisfied with the crumbs that fall from their well laid tables.

But then, I know one day will be one day…
