Concrete jungles by Adewale Sobowale

Ajegunle –

with unlivable, ramshackle palaces,

kids playing in cesspits,

since the place lacks,

even,

simplest of amenities –

remains a banter,

where our new jungle cities are!

Even the dead,

dead as dodo,

get deprived of eternal rest or unrest,

graveyards must be reclaimed,

and give way to skyscrapers!

Sleeping waters are woken,

reclamation is here,

fishes sent away

from their abode,

with other aquatic resources:

-invertebrates

-plants and

the water itself,

are all packed into oblivion!

Our forests become citified,

flora and fauna give way

to man’s selfishness!

All hail our concrete cities,

sorry, concrete jungles!

Where no greens live,

where there are no waters!

The tick kills itself

unknowingly,

and believes

it’s making a meal of the dog,

when the dog dies,

end of the tick is

obvious!
