When a child seems to be selfishly savouring a particular item, the Yoruba are quick to remind him that, ‘On ton tan lodun eegun, omo alagbaa nbo wa fekuru jeko’.
The simple meaning of that is that everyday is not Christmas.
You know there was once a goggled Abacha in Nigeria. During his reign, Nigerians were totally helpless.
Many lost their lives in cold blood or were maimed. So much money was stolen. And nobody could question him.
Nigerians were forced to remember God. God proved Himself to be a Nigerian when one July morning they were told the terrible dictator had died.
No shots were fired. There was no coup. God simply answered the prayer of Nigerians.
For the first family and the hangers on their Christmas had ended!
It beats my imagination when people refuse to learn from such an example. The God of then is still existing.
When people who are in position of authority refuse to protect the people, the people, especially the poor and suffering masses, have no choice but to take the matter to God.
Even before they take the matter to Him, God has already seen the injustice being meted out. We believe God is all seeing.
The rulers of Nigeria have not done well. Unfortunately, they might not be changed in the next elections. If they are not changed, that means their misrule, particularly the bloodshed will continue until God hears the prayer of His people.
Odun egun a tan!
