Earth: “Our Power, Our Planet “
It’s a good day! Earth Day, April 22, 2026, with “Our Power, Our Planet “ as the theme. This is a reminder that we all have the ability to protect our Earth. It is about what we do each day, at home, school, work or in the community. The message of Earth Day encourages individuals to know how their choices such as consumption habits, civic engagement and waste reduction all directly impact environmental outcomes. We do not have to rely solely on government to promote environmental action.
Earth Day started in April 1970, launching this massive Environmental Movement. Since then, some 500 million people globally participate in local community activities, addressing environmental issues.
Apart from Earth Day on April 22, some groups celebrate Earth Week – April 19 to 25 or, the entire month of April as Earth Month. Whatever your choice is, any individual or group activity that contributes to the wellbeing of our Planet, our Earth, is welcome.
Here are some easy activities to consider:
1. Use less energy each day by having energy efficient lighting; taking simple actions such as turning off lights when not being used or, unplugging small appliances/devices after use.
2. Support litter/waste reduction by packing litter-less lunches as often as possible, enacting the concept: reduce, reuse recycle, refuse.
3. Participate in any local community tree planting activity. Trees reduce soil erosion, trap carbon dioxide along with providing food or feed for humans and animals.
4. At home, be part of the growing number of persons involved in Backyard or Container Gardening, to grow vegetables, flowers and Pollinator plants to attract bees. Bees, other insects and hummingbirds are extremely important in pollinating flowers for gardening and farming success.
5. With any of these activities being undertaken, whether individually or in groups, we are all part of the collective action working for a healthier ecosystem – Earth, our home.
6. An activity done today could become a habit, which could bloom into a meaningful way of life. I have enjoyed the benefits of doing Backyard or Container Gardening for several years.
7. For the benefit of Earth, our collective human contribution should reflect a more sustainable living. This is the intention of Earth Week and Earth Day Activities.
Yes. “You in your small corner and I in
mine…” could shine. Your individual local
action is part of the global effort.
May your activities during Earth Week or
Earth Day (April 22), serve a world with
sustainable good deeds.
Keep Earth clean and green.
