The Middle East conflict is escalating, with Iran launching a barrage of missiles at Israel on Tuesday.
NBC reports that the missiles lit up the skies over Jerusalem and Tel Aviv as Iron Dome defences intercepted some of the projectiles and warning sirens blared. Irdepartmentan fired nearly 200 ballistic missiles against several targets, according to the State Department.
The State Department said the US aided in Israel’s defence.
The Israeli military claimed it was not aware of any casualties.
The Palestinian Mujahidin Movement had earlier claimed responsibility for a shooting attack that killed eight people in Tel Aviv.
Iraqi armed groups have threatened US bases in Iraq, and the region will be targeted if the US joins any response to Iranian strikes on Israel or if Israel uses Iraqi airspace against Iran.
UK Defence Secretary John Healeyg es has said that British forces played a role in preventing escalation in the Middle East. Condemning the Iranian attack on Israel, he said the UK stands “fully” behind Israel’s right to self-defence.

President Joe Boden said, “At my direction, the United States military actively supported the defence of Israel. And, we’re still assessing the impact, but based on what we know now, the attack appears to have been defeated and ineffective.”
The Prime Minister of Israel said, “Iran made a mistake tonight- and it will pay for it. The regime in Iran does not understand our determination to retaliate against our enemies.”
