Elephants and Crickets by Adewale Sobowale

Elephants and Crickets!

May foolish remain

unwise,

for,

wise to keep

them cheating!

Little do we know

elephants we carry

on bald heads!

Yet,

we go

using feet

cricket holes

to search!

How many are they –

money-miss-road;

corruptly influential;

spoilt brats –

fleecing our resources;

greedily appropriating

commonwealth;

rendering essential

commodities unbuyable?

They patronise us

stomach infrastructure with!

Pretend us to be happy

even if for few days!

Waking we up

from illusory tendency

we realise

we’ve been raped!

Unrealizing

elephants we carry

should be put down

if we wanted

ourselves free;

forgetting

crumbs of poverty!

When snakes cooperate;

adders in front,

python;

boa;

coral;

python;

rattle;

garter;

with mamba

playing defence;

what manner of rich man

will dare them confront?
