The family of Hanna (surname undisclosed) has been shocked by her unexpected death.
Wales Online reports that they now face a battle to have her body returned to them.
The grieving family has been left navigating the painful process of safely transporting the remains of their grandmother in war-torn Ukraine while living in thousands of miles away in Wales. For safety concerns, their names and specific locations have been withheld.
Kate, one of the deceased grandchildren, said: “Our grandmother is 78, her name is Hannah. She was a mother of three children, deeply independent, and an exceptional person.
“She raised her kids on her own, motivated us all, and worked until her last day. She never gave up. She was a deeply religious person, always praying for everyone around her and for peace.”
Hannah’s death was unexpected leaving the family in a difficult situation. Lisa, Kate’s sister, explained the circumstances they now face. She said, “Now, our grandmother is in uncontrolled Ukrainian territory. Due to our family’s safety, we cannot say the exact location.
“Her death was a shock to all of us and we don’t have enough funds to cover her medical bills, cremation, and transportation. That’s why we decided to raise funds to fulfill her last wish – to be buried next to her mother in her hometown.”
