Afrikaner South Africans who take up US President Donald Trump’s offer of asylum could face serious repercussions, an immigration expert has warned.
The South African reports that this comes amid the controversial stateman’s call to the white population in the country to urgently seek refugee status under his administration.
Speaking to Newsroom Africa, Canadian immigration consultant Nicholas Avramis advised South Africans to heed all aspects of the asylum process, particularly the repercussions.
He said: “One thing people don’t understand is that when you make this claim – seek asylum or refugee status in any country – this will follow you for life.” he said that seeking a visa in other countries could be rejected on this basis.
He continued: “If you’ve made a refugee claim, you’ve declared that you want to leave your home country, in this case, South Africa, and plan to never return.”
According to the US Citizens and Immigration Services (USCIS), refugees could face travel restrictions out of their adopted country.
For those who seek asylum in the US, this means obtaining permission via a travel document before leaving the country
