President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine may visit the White House on Friday to sign a rare earth minerals deal to pay for US military aid to defend against Russia’s full-scale invasion.
The Guardian reports that the announcement followed days of negotiations between both countries. Zelenskyy had earlier alleged the US was pressuring him to sign a deal worth more than $500bn that would have forced 10 generations of Ukrainians to pay back.
However, the terms of an agreement had been settled on Tuesday according to media outlets.
Trump told reporters, “I hear that he’s coming on Friday. Certainly, it’s OK with me if he’d like to. And he would like to sign it together with me. And I understand it’s a big deal, very big deal. “
According to reports, the deal included joint ownership of a deal to develop Ukraine’s mineral resources with certain caveats for those resources already contributing to the state budget.
