Seniority! – Adewale Sobowale

I read someone’s complaints about their juniors, in school, who had stopped referring to them as ‘senior’.

I decided to make this post in order to show, in the first place, that seniority is not for ever.

Second, if a person didn’t misuse his ‘seniority’, he becomes an ‘egbon’, as older siblings are called.

In any case, when I was in school, I never cared for the appellation.

For crying out loud, why would anyone expect me to continue referring to those thugs who physically assaulted me because they were prefects as seniors donkey years after leaving school?

Dem curse me?

By the way, when I met one of my seniors in secondary school, a great footballer and a likeable fellow too, I shouted, ‘Sir Matto’. That was ages after leaving school.

Conversely, when I met one of the aforementioned thugs in Obalende, Lagos, he slithered away like a snake possibly thinking I would attack him. But I’m not a violent person.

Iyan ogun odun…
