As a result of the approaching Muslim festivities, security has been beefed up in Peshawar, Pakistan. The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has, therefore, imposed a complete ban on the entry of Afghan refugees into the provincial capital.

Pakistan Observer reports that the Capital City Police, Qasim Ali Khan, announced that “Afghan refugees in Peshawar will face a complete entry ban during Eid-ul-Azha and Muharram.”

He further revealed that the police will re-conduct security audits of sensitive locations and places of worship. Afghan refugees, particularly those entering irregularly, are a major point of these increased measures.

Continuing, he said, practical steps will be taken to curb street crime. Afghan refugees will be subjected to the strict enforcement of the entry ban, especially during the festivals.
