Muibatu by Adewale Sobowale

“Àdèwalé ọlọ́rẹ

Ọkọ Múìbátù

Ìwà rẹ wù mí o

Káàbọ̀ ṣé dáda lo dé

Adéwálé ọlọ́rẹ.”

Even, before I came to be:

I had known her:

Sweet, caring, tender,

and winsome to behold!

My paternal family knew her through songs!

Her song was always sung to me!

She never nagged

Neither was she ever jealous!

Her family never asked for bride price

Since I never met them!

In fact, I’m yet to see her

Great day it will be when I do

When she ceases to exist in my late Grandpa’s

Sakara songs and becomes a reality!

“Adewale the giver

Muibatu’s husband

I love your countenance

Welcome, hope you had smooth a ride

Adewale, the giver.”
