Kindly pardon my use of words. I’m not unnecessarily using poetic license. However, when certain things keep making senseless recurs, I’m always at a loss on how to describe them. Some people have said that some anjonu bring those words, anjonu meaning spirits.
Of course, not those that a former presidential aide says are permanent residents of Aso Rock. In any case I do believe in spirits. My belief stems from my being a Yoruba and an adherent of one of the two major religions.
Now to the matter of the day!
As far as I am concerned, most of us are not more than chickmen. That is fully grown human beings with the hearts of chickens.
Why is it that human life in Nigeria is worse than that of a chicken! At least, chickens are not everyday meals in most homes in Nigeria. We are yet to be that affluent. Yes, one must be rich enough to buy an ordinary chicken.

Just yesterday, some gentlemen were protesting in support of the American president, Mr Trump. By the end of the day, eleven of them were said to have been killed.
Just like that!
In Southern Kaduna,a religious strife has continued unabated. Just yesterday, I watched a post of people being slaughtered like cows and the corpses being dumped in a man sized trench.
Just like that!
Book haram war has not fully been checkmated. At least, there are still indiscriminate bombings going on. What about the Chibok girls? The last time I checked, those rescued were still far less than those still in book harm gulag.
Just like that!
Kidnappings are now the order of the day. In fact, I believe most would-be armed robbers now prefer kidnapping because it is less risky and pays better.
Just like that!
And we claim to have a government in Nigeria. Alright, it’s like the government is differentiating between being in government and ruling. All they are interested in is getting their emoluments even when their employers, the people, are having challenges in collecting their salaries. Those of pensioners are even messier. A human being is yet to find a bed-space, and the dog is snoring!
Just like that!
But then, it is not really the fault of government, it is more the fault of the chickmen.That is, full grown men with the heart of chickens.
Just like that!
In most cases, when an injustice is taking place before our very eyes, we hardly care because it hasn’t happened to a relation of ours. We have been so much battered into submission by the absence of what we should have been taking for granted as a civilised people – basic social amenities and those whom we’ve employed to make our society better – government.
Just like that!
It is the people who should make the officials of government earn their pay. But since we are so gullible, indifferent and complacent they will continue to lead us by the nose. We have been reduced to a society of ‘God dey’! Of course, most people believe in the existence of God. However, he has given us intellect, that is the power to think. OK, we are waiting for God to assist us in saying no to devilish governance.
We are nothing but chickmen !!!
