Last Monday was International Women’s Day, and today is Mother’s Day. Maybe it’s because of the efforts of women that we have so many Mother’s Days.
I just thought I should note the apparent need for women in our private, social and political lives.
When we look at the Christian worldview about the creation of man, it predictably says the first human created was Adam – a man!
I say predictably because, until recent times, it had been a man’s world.
According to the Christian worldview, God then created a woman from Adam’s ribs, who was named Eve.
However, Adam was the first person to fail an examination. God had told both of them not to eat fruits from the ‘tree of the knowledge of good and evil’.
However, a snake cunningly introduced Eve to the forbidden fruit, making her commit the ‘Original sin’. When Eve gave Adam the fruit(s?), in his gullibility, he also ate it.
But his failure came when God came on his usual rounds of inspection and asked Adam, ‘Where are you?’
Adam replied, ‘I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked, then I hid.’
Even a kindergartener couldn’t have failed such an oral examination!
Women have been excellent. It’s a common saying that behind every successful man is a woman. That’s true, except there should be another saying that behind every man who’s a failure is a bevvy of women.
But then, there’s an obvious need for more women as political chief executives. Coming from a background of having men in most political offices who make a mess of it and embarrass themselves, I believe we need women who are great schemers and planners.
But then, I won’t be a party to women succeeding just because they happen to be women. I would rather help them pay their dues!
To all women of substance, I say Happy Women’s Day!
