According to the International Olympic Committee, the “goal of the Olympic Movement is to contribute to building a peaceful and better world by educating youth through sport practised without discrimination of any kind and in the Olympic spirit, which requires mutual understanding with a spirit of friendship, solidarity and fair play.”

The Olympic body needs to familiarize itself with current realities.

An Afghan who represented the Olympic Refugee Team, 21-year-old Manizha Talash, was disqualified from the first-ever Olympic breaking competition for wearing a cape reading “Free Afghan Women.”

According to the body, political statements and slogans are banned on the field of play and podiums.

Are women in Afghanistan free?

The athlete only stated an obvious fact.

She probably wouldn’t have been a refugee if the women in her country had some freedom
