Foreigners have been banned from participating in political activities in the Philippines.

GMA News Online reports that as President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. prepares for the third State of the Nation Address, the Bureau of Immigration has reminded foreigners that they are prohibited from participating in political activities in the country.

Norman Tansingeo, the Immigration Commissioner, has warned that foreigners caught in acts that seek to overthrow the government, destroy property, or violate the conditions of their stay would be deported.

He said, “Being a visitor in the Philippines does not confer does not confer and privileges akin to those of a Filipino citizen.”

He further said foreigners’ joining political demonstrations is tantamount to a display of disrespect “towards the country’s authorities and constitutes meddling in our internal affairs as a sovereign nation.”

He threatened that foreigners found guilty would be delisted and effectively banned from entering the Philippines.
