It’s no secret that I crave Nollywood movies as well as real African music.
The fact that most of the practitioners are acquiring education is particularly enchanting. There’s no doubting the fact that the industries are changing.
However, methinks we should begin to think of appealing to our people through those industries. I mean we should consciously set about using the theater and dance halls for social change.
Let’s have some historical plays about who did what. We could also have socially relevant works of fiction.
In music, we could do with less praise singing and deal with germane issues.
We all know the fact that if the performances are touching enough, we’ll have a win win situation. That is, the performers will smile to the banks while satisfying themselves that they’ve been useful agents of social change.
One more thing is that subtitling of movies should be given to professionals!
