Eight Mexican farmworkers were killed and dozens of others were injured in Florida when their bus was sideswiped by a drunk driver and overturned in a field.
US News reports that the farmworkers were on their way to a watermelon field in Central Florida.
The accused in Tuesday’s crash has a lengthy driving record and is being held in jail without bond.
The farmworkers were working on seasonal visas and authorities are yet to release their names.
The crash happened about 130 kilometers north of Orlando.
President Andres Obama of Mexico said that 44 workers were on the bus. The government later said nine of the injured were in critical condition.
The Mexican consulate in Orlando was working to provide support at the AdventHealth Ocala hospital where many of the injured were taken.
