The immigration system at Lahore airport has been damaged by a fire which erupted at the immigration counters.
The Nation reports that since the equipment and systems were completely destroyed, flight operations were disrupted.
However, the fire was later brought under control. airport officials said it would take some time for the smoke to clear. Passengers were prevented from entering until the premises were clear.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the fire was caused by short-circuiting and it spread rapidly to a large portion of the airport. It also caused a stampede at a small level. The entire airport was evacuated.
