There’s a common saying, at least in Nigeria, that when a matter has gone beyond crying one should laugh!
So, is the case of thieves actually making their ways into a police station in Ebute Meta, Nigeria and stealing a television set.

Let’s look at it in the proper perspective. A police station is normally considered as a secured place. Secured to the extent that people who are stranded find succor in staying there.
Alleged law offenders are kept in the police station at least for twenty four hours after which they are supposed to be taken to a properly constituted court of law.
Also, arms and ammunition are kept in the police station.
Above all, a police station is not supposed to be under lock and key. This is because security work is supposed to be a 24/7 one.
But, Nigeria is giving another name to a police station.
The police station is no longer secured. So, people who are stranded aren’t free to go there anymore.
If any law offenders are kept in the station, their aggrieved friends could always lay a siege on the station and free their man.
Arms and ammunition kept in a police station could be ‘borrowed’ for criminal purposes and returned the following day.
Conclusively, police stations will be obeying the eight to three system of work schedule in order to be security conscious.
Maybe at the end of the day, it’s the OPC, IPOB and the dreaded Boko Haram that will be given the task of guarding the police in other to perform their constitutional roles!
