The Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation (MoR) says 640 Afghan refugees have returned to Afghanistan after being released from Pakistani jails this week.
Pajhwok Afghan News reports that, in a statement, the ministry said 585 returnees entered Afghanistan through the Torkham crossing, while 55 others returned through Spin Boldak in southern Kandahar province.
The ministry said the returnees included families, children and individuals who had been released from Pakistani prisons and repatriated to Afghanistan.
It added that the released refugees received humanitarian assistance before being transported to their respective areas.
“MoRR has emphasized the importance of protecting the rights and freedoms of Afghan refugees abroad and is committed to providing safe and appropriate conditions for all refugees within the country,” the statement said.
