Many colours, one light! – Adewale Sobowale

I’ve long become convinced that

human beings –

no matter their pigmentation,

economic situation, ability or otherwise,

height or weight,

are either good or bad!

For that reason,

I’ve been castigated by some

who are blind

to what I’m seeing!

Human beings are rainbows,

each of us a fragment of colour.

Humanity shines when its many hues arc as one!

Many colours, one light!

We are prisms of one light,

reflecting truth in different colours.

Diversity is the spectrum,

unity is the arc!

The beauty of humankind is the rainbow-

ephemeral, radiant, whole!

Our differences are not fractures but facets,

revealing the fullness of what it means to be human!

When you see a human being as a rainbow,

you’ll recognize the paradox of unity and multiplicity!

Each life refracts the same invisible light

into different colours –

courage,

grief,

tenderness

and desire!

Many colours, one light!

No single hue exhausts the truth

of our being!

Did we realize we are

partial glimpses of the whole?

Alone, we shine a single colour,

but together we form the full arc

of humanity,

something luinous and whole!

Together, like rainbows,

we appear most vividly after storms,

when light meets rain!

Many colours, one light!

In our diversity lies our beauty,

in our unity lies our strength

many hues,

one spectrum sky!

Those who are yet to believe

in the equality of human beings

are to be pitied because

they’re losing so much!

Many colours, one light!
